11 architecture and urbanism teams applies to the public bid of ideas convened by the Administration. It is an anonymous bid. The winning proposal is "Pergola", by “azpilicueta architecture” team.
EXISTING CONDITIONS
The Fronton was built in 1933. Fronton is oriented to south which creates visibility problems for the games
PROPOSAL
The challenge is how to cover this big space in a way that the whole construction integrates in landscape creating a dialogue with existing buildings.
It proposes to integrate the volume of the Fronton in Astrain, shaped using strong horizontal eaves in the local landscape.
The Fronton is built in a way that allows the visibility across its walls, not commonly observed in this type of construction. Therefore the “visual barrier” is avoided.
New pavement accesses are created allowing pedestrian connexions in both directions, North and Southwest. There is an increase in the meeting points on playfield and surroundings. All this creates a new covered space protecting players and pedestrians from the weather (rain and sun).
The option for a 36 meters Fronton is included, what is known as “Pala Larga” (Long Spade)
A formal dialog appears between the new light cover and the existing and heavy walls of the Fronton.
2.4m eaves are incorporated to avoid the entry of direct light to the field. A homogeneous distribution of indirect light is obtained by means of the disposition of the vertical lattice.
